Travis Sherlin

Travis Sherlin is joining Homestead as the new Administrator and Educator for Outdoor Education, Physical Education, and Enrichment Programming. He most recently worked at a public Montessori school in Washington, D.C., where he taught environmental and physical education and led a vibrant afterschool program.

With a background that blends classroom teaching, community education, and outdoor learning, Travis brings a rich range of experience to his work with children. He has served as a Peace Corps agroforester in Guinea, worked as an urban beekeeper in Chicago, and spent years designing hands-on experiences that help kids connect with the land, with movement, and with each other. He holds a degree in Sustainable Community Development and believes in a pedagogy rooted in wonder—creating moments where curiosity leads the way and learning comes alive.

Outside of school, Travis is a big fan of outer space, dogs (especially his two mini poodles, Peter Pawker and Pepper Pawts), and word games. When he’s not teaching, you’ll likely find him riding his motorcycle through the countryside with his wife Jenna, puzzling through a crossword, or rewatching Interstellar for the millionth time.

“I am excited to join Homestead’s vibrant, land-based community—where education lives not only in the classroom, but in the gardens, forests, fields, and relationships that surround it. I look forward to sharing his passions for beekeeping, environmental stewardship, and joyful movement while learning from the deep-rooted values already thriving at Homestead.”
