First Graders' Thatched Roof Project

Thoughout the 2001-2002 school year, the first and second grade classes at Homestead School have learned about life during colonial times in America. This spring, the first graders have reconstructed some of what they've learned by gathering hay from the Homestead fields and creating thatched roof inside their classroom. Twenty-eight students took six hours of their time to gather and bind 250 bundles of hay, which is what it took to construct the 6' by 8' roof. The pictures below were taken in April 2002.
