THE SHAKER VILLAGE             

 

Hancock Shaker Village was called the "City of Peace." It was an active Shaker community from 1783 to 1960. It was the home to 100 residents at a time who lived a communal life.

 

 

 

The Shakers were known for their craftsmanship and technical advancements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Their furnishings were simple but elegant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Their round-barn proved most efficient for feeding their livestock and holding their hay.
