Olana was the home
of 19th century American artist Frederic Church. He and his wife Isabel
began building this house in 1870 on their farm located just south of
the magestic Hudson River. Its design was inspired primarily by Moorish
architecture, and it was here that Frederic worked on his major paintings.
In addition to designing the house to the last detail, Church also took
great pains to meticulously design its surrounding grounds, such that
by 1891 Olana itself became a singular work of art.
The grounds of Olana
